At one time teachers would bring their junior school pupils over to my studio in small groups to paint. I watched those same village children playing cricket one late summers day, and made this painting. That day I tried to capture their joy and energy, the long grass full of buzzing insects and the big blowing Cornish sky. Now the children are grown up, the school has become a house, and the cricket pitch was sold for building plots.
