Red flowers in a white jug . Behind is a sunny landscape.

Remembering Martyn Val Baker.

In Zoe Cameron Blog by Zoe Cameron

A lovely man , a writer and promoter of artists and music here in Cornwall for so many years . It was with great sadness that I heard of his recent passing. From 1995 he was kind enough to show my work along with many others of my generation . I feel lucky to have had his support through Rainy Day Gallery, Penzance over the years.

I found him to be a modest man, very altruistic with a good sense of humour. He didn’t seek to capitalise on his notable ancestry either…. his father was the well known writer Denys Val Baker , who introduced the world to the St Ives Artists Colony in his book ‘ Britain’s Art Colony by the Sea’, amongst other publications.

I enjoyed our chats , and I always looked forward to seeing him and the interesting work he put together at his Exhibitions and private views .

Thank you Martyn , you will be sorely missed by us all.
