Notre Dame 2019
It was in April 2019 that I made this little Votive oil painting . Like many I had watched with great sadness, as the flames took hold and destroyed this ancient and beautiful Cathedral . It had stood since 1345 , its old oak timbers listening to the thanks, prayers and silent meditations of those who entered. So it has been wonderful to witness its extraordinary rebirth.
I was listening on the radio to someone involved in the restoration process, who explained that it was decided to bring together both ancient and modern building techniques and engineering, something they thought the original engineers and craftspeople would have done today.
Looking back at this painting , I join in celebrating the artisans and all those with the essential skills and vision able to return this Medieval treasure back to Paris .
